Red Velvet......or.......Watermelon Cake!!!!!

Hey guys, hope everyone had a Happy 4th of July!!! I know that I did. I made a watermelon cake for the first time ever. And let me tell you, it is not as easy as it seems. I do not have any pictures because I was running behind schedule and when I got to the party the cake seemed to have disappeared!! LOL.

So here is what you need:::
Watermelon
Fruit (I used strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries)
Whip Cream
Patience (You need a ton)
Almonds (I didn't really care for the taste together, next time I will try pecans)

The first thing I did was slice the ends of the watermelon. Depending on how big you want the slices to be, you can leave it whole or cut it in half. I cut mine in half. It would be best, well in my case it was, to slowly slice the rind off of the watermelon.  As long as your knife is really sharp, then it will go quickly. Just take a little off at a time. I had prepped the watermelon the night before but I had to work and had to rush the whip cream. Normally you let whip cream thaw out overnight in the fridge. I had to whip mine in the mixer. Doing this created a thinner consistency than what I needed.

While I was icing the watermelon, it became runny :(. But I went on. Once I iced half of the watermelon, I took a handful of almonds and lightly pressed them into the sides. Once I went around the entire watermelon I placed the strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries on top.

I then placed the entire thing back in the fridge to try and thicken up the whip cream.

When I got to the party, everyone thought it was a red velvet cake. And they LOVED it....so give it a try and tell me what you think.....

.....until next time!!

....Good Ole Fashion Bread!!...

Hey guys, sorry for the MIA...I have been busy!! I have been craving homemade bread for the longest time. So a couple of days ago, I came across a recipe on YouTube for a wheat/white bread combo. So I said hey, why not. I got the recipe from TheCraftyGemini. I have made bread before but it was with a different recipe.

Ingredients

1 cup Wheat Flour (She used 1/2 cup)
White Bread Flour (As needed, all depends on your location because of humidity)
1 1/2 cups Water
1 Tbl Spoon Oil
1/2 Tsp Honey
1 1/2 Tsp Yeast
1 Tsp Salt (She used 2 but I did not want it to be too salty)

The first thing you must do is get the temperature of the water to be between 103F-108F. If the temperature is off, it will through everything off. It took me about 3 tries to get it right. I was frustrated so I didn't take that many pictures. Add the honey and give it a quick mix. Sprinkle the yeast on top. DO NOT MIX THE YEAST!

Cover the bowl with a towel and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. The yeast should form a layer on top. If it does not happen you need to start over. This is where I was having my difficulty. I do not know if my yeast was not good but it did not create a film all across the bowl like hers. It had lumps of the layer so I used it anyway.

Next, I added 1/2 cup of the wheat flour and mixed it up. I then mixed in the salt and the oil. I then added the rest of the wheat flour. I then proceeded to add in the white bread flour a 1/2 cup at a time until you get the right consistency  The right consciency is when the dough is slightly sticky but now enough that it steaks to your had. When the dough becomes difficult to stir, lightly flour your surface and begin to nead. Work in the flour. REMEMBER 1/2 cup at a time.

Once the dough it read grease a bowl with oil and place the dough in the bowl. rub the dough around the bowl until the bottom is coated in the oil. Turn the dough over and repeat. Place a towel over the dough and allow it to rise. for about 40 minutes.

Here is where my issue arose. My dough did not rise. Exactly, I know right. I think it all came back to my yeast. But I was determined to finish what I started. I pressed down and let it rise again. But nothing happened. I pre-heated my oven to 350 and formed dinner rolls. I coated a cookie sheet with cooking spray and

placed the rolls on the sheet. I baked them for about 15-20 minutes.

And guess what??? They came out tasting great. I was surprised as you are. I made sweet butter (honey, cinnamon, and sugar). And let me tell you, they were....GREAT together.

Quick Father's Day DIY

Hey guys its me again! At church we are celebrating Father's Day today because we do not have church next Sunday.

I came across this pin while on Pinterest that showed a very quick and easy Father's Day craft. The idea came from Bits of Everything. The link goes to her tutorial on how she assembled hers. Beautiful by the way.

I tweaked mine to go with my invisible budget, lol. Here are the supplies that I used because it is what I had on hand:
Children (lol, they were super excited to help make them)
Envelopes [make sure they have the security lining (I used the short ones)]
                Glue
                Construction paper
                Scissors
1 sheet of computer paper to trace the image of the tie
                Pen

I  was running low on printer ink so instead of simply printing out the outline of the tie, I used a sheet of computer paper and traced it off my iPad and cut it out.  I then took that cut out and traced about 8 ties on one sheet of construction paper.

I placed about 5 sheets together and cut out each tie (saves time instead of cutting on sheet at a time). Here is where the children come into the action, lol. I had the youngest ones glue the envelopes closed with some water. It turned into a competition to see who could finish first.

I had my oldest niece cut the ends off each envelope and I then cut the small slit in the middle to form the shirt. Once you cut the middle (you do not have to go that far down, the father your go, the bigger the collar fyi). The small children then glued the ties to the shirts.

I kept the ties simple and easy so that it would not be difficult for the kids to work with. And because of my nonexistent budget, we are not using candy. I came across this image while Googling Father's Day quotes, make sure you look at the images. So I used the rest of my printer ink and print out a couple of them in black and white and glued them on some index cards and slide them right on in.

Here are some of the finished product. What do you guys think? I think the kids did GREAT!

DIY Project #1 Paper Flower

This is my first blog ever, I feel so old, lol. Well recently I have been getting into DIY projects from hair care to cleaning products to decorations to food to clothes. I have looked at fellow bloggers and youtubers to try my hand at what they have created that seemed simple enough for me to do. Well, it may be simple but not everything works out for me.

I have decided to create a blog dedicated to me trying out projects and ideas created by other people. Because, isn't that the whole purpose to during the tutorials. I am always coming across posts/comments of people who have tried a particular project and it came out great. Well yippee dee do for them. The same cannot be said for me. I have failed at some of these projects more times than I have succeeded.

While on Pinterest (this site will make you believe you can do it all), I came across a pin for tutorials on making paper flowers. I found a video by selectionsbyER called 3rd paper Flower tutorial. Her directions were very easy to follow and I think I did a pretty good job.

I kept it very basic with:
1 sheet of white printing paper
             1 bobby pin
              Scissors
              Old earring
3 different size circles to trace
              Glue gun and glue
             Wire cutter

I traced the three different size circles and cut those out. I then took each circle and folded them in half. And then in half again. The next step was to unfold once and do a trifold. Once you do this, simply curve each side of the triangle (or cut a small mountain lol) and trim the top. Then unfold. When I did this my petals where still connected. So note that you must trim beginning where your curve (or mountain ends) on both sides. Repeat on remaining petals. I then took a booby pin and twisted each petal. The next to final step was to simply layer the petals from largest to smallest. Finally I pushed in the center with and old earring and super glued it to keep it in place. Then snipped the end of the earring off. And BAM!!! lol

I didn't paint it because I wanted to see how it would come out first. And lets be honest, I did not want to waste paint nor the small amount of time it would have taken to paint something that I would have thrown in the trash. But on this DIY. I loved the results. What do you guys think?
